Whole Grain

Are You Getting Enough?

Are you eating enough wholegrains?

Internationally 9 out of 10 people are not eating enough wholegrains.
New Zealand Food and Nutrition guidelines recommend that you should eat at least six serves of grain-based foods everyday; preferably wholegrain. A good target to aim for is eating half of your grain-based foods as wholegrains.

Take the Test!

What is a serve?

  • 1 slices of wholegrain/wholemeal bread
  • 1 wholegrain/wholemeal bread roll
  • 4 wholegrain crisp breads
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1 cup cooked wholemeal pasta
  • ½ cup porridge
  • ½ cup muesli
  • 2 Wheat biscuits

All foods have a range of different nutrients. Try and incorporate a selection of different wholegrains into your day. For example you could have a wheat cereal such as wheat biscuits for breakfast, popcorn for an afternoon snack, brown rice with your main meal and an apple crumble using rolled oats in the crumble for dessert.
